Bhagwati was given three days off to meet his family and bid goodbye before his battalion was armed and was to leave for Malaya. He never wanted to go back to his home. Rather he preferred to stay with his Aunty and called my father to spend sometime there with him. Till that time, my father did not realize what army job meant. On the third day when Bhagwati took him to his barracks, the realization dawned that the danger of war might even take away his beloved brother from his for ever. As per the routine customs before a soldier left for war front, Bhagwati also spelled out his “Will” to the officer. The farewell was very tearful and my father could not sleep for days after that. Comfort of his Aunty could bring him back to normal

1I remember when I was going to Pakistan front as a young soldier. It was very nostelgic to bid goodbye to family. You never knew that you will see them again.
